Pharmacy Technician 

Diploma


Pharmacy technicians work directly under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. As a pharmacy technician, your general duties may include:

  • Transcribing physicians' orders and hospital charts
  • Selecting drug products
  • Preparing medications for dispensing, labeling, and refill authorization
  • Entering patient profiles and information on the computer

You also may assist in quality management procedures and security measures. Other duties may include preparing unit dose medications, intravenous admixtures, and sterile irrigations.

Program Objectives

The Pharmacy Technician Diploma program can prepare you with the knowledge, technical skills, and work habits required for an entry-level position in the pharmacy field or in a related area. Some of the courses include the following:

  • Hospital and Retail Pharmacy
  • Sterile Product Preparations
  • Prescription Order Processing
  • Computer Applications and Career Development
  • Pharmacology and the Apocrine Systems
  • Pharmacology and the Nervous System I

You will also gain practical experience during an externship at an ambulatory clinic that provides infusion services. You can complete your externship at a pharmacy, hospital, or other appropriate health care facility.

Career Opportunities

As a graduate of OIP&T's pharmacy technician program, you may apply for an entry-level position at pharmacies in retail, hospital, and mail-order settings.
